Die „Systemische Therapie mit der Inneren Familie“ ist von Prof. Dr. Richard Schwartz, einem Familientherapeuten aus den USA, entwickelt worden. Dieser Ansatz bezieht das Konzept der Systemischen Familientherapie auf die innerpsychische Welt des Einzelnen.
Das IFS-Modell geht davon aus, dass jeder Mensch über verschiedene Persönlichkeitsanteile verfügt und die Teile einer Person in ähnlicher Weise miteinander interagieren wie Familienmitglieder es tun, was in dem Begriff „Inneres Familien-System“ (IFS) zum Ausdruck kommt.
Unsere inneren Anteile können wir in Form von Gedanken, Gefühlen, Körperempfindungen wahrnehmen. Alle Teile haben eine Intention, Gutes für das Individuum zu bewirken, und wenden dafür verschiedene Strategien an. Die konträren Ziele der Teile erleben wir als Ambivalenz oder inneren Konflikt.
Neben den Teilen geht die IFS-Methode von einem inneren Kern, dem Selbst aus, das sich insofern grundlegend von den Teilen unterscheidet, als dass es sich durch beständige Qualitäten wie Mitgefühl, Gelassenheit oder Neugier auszeichnet.
Ziel der IFS-Therapie ist es, die inneren Teile näher kennen und wertschätzen zu lernen, um Vertrauen in die Führung durch das Selbst zu gewinnen.
